Fire hydrant parking nyc8/30/2023 ![]() ![]() No one carries a tape measure, not even the NYPD Traffic Officers do. It’s never visibly posted, and it just isn’t common knowledge. Yet not many drivers know the exact distance you must park from one. Fire Hydrants are the most important NO PARKING zone in the city. Visual guidelines must be explicit regarding: where not to drive how fast to drive one-way streets and where not to park. If New York is to be the “Capital of the World”, then there must be some kind of order for all NYC drivers. There are drivers from all over the world who follow entirely different set of rules in their countries. Which seems comparable to being pulled over for speeding and being reprimanded by two different officers with two individual tickets, yet there was no speed limit signs… Is it legal to be punished for the same crime twice? The two latter tickets were stacked on the windshield one on top of the other because we hadn’t moved the car for 2 days, due to a day off from the NYC street cleaning routine…plus, we simply didn’t know we were at an illegal distance from the Hydrant, because there was NO PAINT on the curb. $115 – Parked 8 feet from Fire Hydrant (Hull&205) After researching the offenses, this is what we were presented with: Being extremely busy this Summer/Fall, we missed our opportunity to dispute them (just shy of 3 months after being ticketed, yet not one single warning letter).
